My much-loved old English gown had ... ahem ... shrunk across the chest. I could wear it, but I had to pin it open over a placket, which was a hassle. So I've made a new.

This one, I think, looks rather lower class than the other, perhaps because It lacks the contrasting lower sleeves. It's made of a heavy wool-cashmere lined in linen. The sleeves are in two parts and are finished off with a row of tabs at the sleeve-head. I haven't hemmed it; rather, it's bound in scraps of black wool, which is a technique I find quicker and easier than hemming.

I'm wearing this over my yellow kirtle and the usual trimmings.
