Introduction

I'm going to be making a black woollen gown. I've never made a gown before, so this will be something of a learning curve. I'm planning on basing the pattern on a couple of gowns in Patterns of Fashion although I'll adjust them to make them a little more snug fitting over the body. I think that'll replicate the look of the portraits better.

I've ordered five yards of black linen from Whaleys today. I've never bought anything from them before, but I've heard good things about them, and they've always been prompt about sending out samples when I've requested them. I'm pretty sure I won't need the full five yards, but it was a good price, and black linen is always useful. Can't wait til it turns up!
